FEARS & PHOBIAS

Most people that have a phobia are aware of the irrational nature of the fear but have almost no control over their anxiety.

The phobia, is just a symbolic representation of your out of control thinking (anxiety).

Simple phobias: These tend to center around a specific, animal, object situation or activity. Usually develop in our youth and with time may become less severe as we grow older.

Complex phobias: These tend to develop when we are adults and stem from deep-rooted anxiety about a particular situation or circumstance.

When you come across the source of your phobia, you’re likely to feel incredibly scared, nervous and anxious, and that can lead to a panic attack.

The symptoms are very similar:

  • Chest pain or other chest discomfort

  • Chills or hot flashes

  • Choking sensation

  • De-realisation (feeling unreal) or de-personalisation (feeling detached from self)

  • Dizzy, lightheaded, faint or unsteady

  • Fear of dying

  • Fears of loss of control or becoming insane

  • Heart pounds, races or skips beats

  • Nausea or other abdominal discomfort

  • Numbness or tingling

  • Shortness of breath or smothering sensation

  • Sweating

  • Trembling

Most phobias are rooted in an early childhood experience or in adolescence but they are in your subconscious and usually, they are learned responses and this is where I can help you!

We may need to explore a little deeper, what triggered the phobia and very gently, I´ll be using different techniques to gradually help you to unlearn the fear response.

Hypnotherapy works on a subconscious level where the “phobia” needs to be released or changed. When the brain has learned to respond differently to the perceived “problem”, the fear or phobia quite often disappears and loses its power.
