The way we are designed to respond to pressure is to go into the ‘fight or flight’ response – this dumps lots of adrenalin and other chemicals into our system and gets us through the situation. Which is fine if it’s only short-term.

But…what is happening in today’s frantic society is that our bodies are in this incredibly “heightened state” for long periods of time and this can eventually cause many health problems.

This is stress!

Chronic stress can severely affect a person’s quality of life and contribute to various mental and physical health issues such as:

  • Difficulty in making decisions

  • Headaches (migraine and tension)

  • Inability to concentrate

  • Increased consumption of alcohol

  • Indigestion

  • Irritable or angry over minor issues

  • Loss of appetite or over-eating

  • Minor illnesses that are more frequent

  • Reduced or no interest in sex

  • Short term memory is problematic

  • Shoulder and back pain

  • Tired even after a full night’s sleep

  • High blood pressure

  • Heart disease

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Sleep issues
